Nanocellect gets $3M from NIH for single cell and image based flow cytometry.
SAN DIEGO, CA (November 22, 2017) — NanoCellect Biomedical Inc. received $3 Million in funding from the Small Business Innovation Research Program (SBIR). The National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) gave an award of $1.5 M to advance single-cell plating and analysis, and the National Institute of Drug Abuse (NIDA) gave an award of $1.5 M to advance real-time image-based cell sorting.
NanoCellect plans to use the R&D funding from the awards to introduce upgraded functionality to the company’s WOLF Cell Sorter and N1 Single-Cell Dispenser, which provides 5-parameter sorting and cell printing in a personal, benchtop easy-to-use format. The award will ensure that NanoCellect’s next generation devices advance biomedical research and development in academia, pharma, and biotech.
Image-based sorting is a leap in flow cytometry functionality that utilizes the same footprint as the existing WOLF Cell Sorter and applies patent-pending technology that is low-cost and low-complexity. These innovations allow the next-generation image-based sorter to be compatible with commercialization. While imaging cytometers have enjoyed some success, users recognize that sorting the cells will massively increase the utility of these image-based flow cytometry technologies.
